John Nicholas heads the National Highways Safety, Engineering & Standards team that specialise in tunnels. John works with other tunnel operators, through the Road Tunnel Association, and has been accountable or responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and/or renewal of most road tunnels in southern England, at one time or another over the last 20 years. Before road tunnels, John enjoyed a happy few years in tunnelling, railway renewals, micro-tunnels & pipe-jacking, dabbled in mining at School, and retains a healthy curiosity, especially towards safety and resilience.
