Keith Bowers is London Underground’s Profession Head for Tunnel Engineering. This role includes engineering responsibility for the railway’s existing deep tube tunnels and also new underground construction projects. The current new works projects include station upgrade tunnelling at Tottenham Court Road, Victoria, Bond St and Bank together with the extension of the Northern Line to Battersea. In addition Keith is involved in London’s Crossrail project as a member of that project’s Engineering Expert Panel.
Prior to joining London Underground Keith held a range of posts in government and industry. He has worked on major projects such as Section 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the King’s Cross Underground Station upgrade. Prior to those he led research teams working on road and rail infrastructure at the UK Transport Research Laboratory.
Keith’s past experience includes a mixture of research, consultancy and project delivery in the field of transport infrastructure. In particular he has worked on tunnel design and construction, tunnel boring machine management and the operation and maintenance of transport tunnels. Keith also has a particular interest in developing technologies for instrumentation to monitor and control underground works.
