Kim Smedegaard Andersen graduated in 1992 as a maritime civil engineer from Aalborg University, spending time in Germany and the UK in the process. During the construction of the Øresund Fixed Link, he was employed as Design Manager on the Dredging & Reclamation contract and was involved with the immersed tunnel for seven years on the client side. Since then he has consulted as Project Manager on the new Ørestad City infrastructure development, the Opera Project in Copenhagen and as market director. In 2006 he became contractor, and worked for an advanced multimedia house in Copenhagen.
In April 2009 he commenced the work on the design of the immersed tunnel across the Fehmarnbelt in competition with the bridge solution. In October 2011 appointed as Contract Director, Immersed Tunnel, Tunnel manager and as Deputy Technical Director.
January 2017 until February 2019 appointed as CEO for Sund & Bælt Partner A/S a consultancy company providing national and international clients consultancy services through services within Sund & bælt Holding expertise.
Since 2013 Chairman of the Danish Tunnelling and Underground Society, member of ITA (International Tunnel Association).
