David’s international engineering career has focused on major infrastructure projects and he has specialized in tunnels including road, rail and utility projects in all types of ground. He has spent most of his career in different continents, living and working in Hong Kong, Sydney and New York where he was Chief Engineer for the Joint Venture designers working on the Second Avenue Subway, Phase 1 of which opened in January 2017. He is currently an Arup director based in London. David is very much involved with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) being a Fellow who has served three terms on Council. He has also sits on the Professionalism Panel and the International Committee and is currently ICE Americas Regional Committee Chair. David is a volunteer STEM Ambassador who likes to stress that engineering is not simply about things and that people skills are a key requirement for engineering professionals. Civil Engineering is all about improving people’s lives and working for the public good.
