Ian is a Director of Atkins’ Tunnelling & Underground Space Practice and is responsible for delivering services into UK, Europe, North America and Canada.
He has had a thirty year career specialising in underground design and construction, working on many of London’s major projects such as the Jubilee Line Extension, Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Heathrow Express tunnels. He has also worked on the Lewisham, Woolwich & Dagenham Dock Extensions of the Docklands Light Railway in East London.
He has worked in a number of roles including engineering feasibility through to detailed design and as technical advisor for range of client authorities, insurers and funders on projects including Crossrail Bored Tunnels, Arlandabanan, Metroselskabet, Copenhagen, and has worked internationally in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and the USA.
Ian has been Engineering Expert Witness for TfL at TWAO Public Inquiry and DCO Examination, for the Woolwich Arsenal Extension and Silvertown Tunnel Thames crossings, and has experience of hybrid Bill preparation for High Speed 2, supporting the scheme through public meeting and petitioning stages.
Ian is a Chartered Civil Engineer and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Structural Engineers. He is currently Atkins’ Project Director for London Underground’s Bakerloo Line Upgrade and Extension programme.
