Kier
Faringdon to Blunsdon Pipeline

The Faringdon to Blunsdon pipeline, a £45 million project by Thames Water and Kier, aims to enhance the water supply in Swindon. Spanning 13.7km, this project addresses the urgent need to fix leaks and ensure a high-quality water supply for a growing population. The initiative was prompted by the region's increasing water demand and reliance on groundwater. Starting in May 2021 and set for completion in 2024, the project focuses on upgrading infrastructure while respecting ecological and historical sensitivities. Extensive planning ensures minimal disruption to the community and environment. This initiative underscores Thames Water's commitment to sustainable infrastructure, service reliability, and preserving the region's ecological balance and heritage. The project team have taken a novel approach to stakeholder engagement, investing time in supporting a local farm who in turn supports young people with Autism. In addition to more traditional social value activities, such as working with local primary schools.

Social Value

SCS have developed a truly inclusive culture with social value embedded at the heart of the organisation. Our approach has enabled us to create a sustainable legacy contributing to the long-term wellbeing and resilience of local communities. We are committed to ensuring that local people benefit from the investment of HS2, through economic growth, job opportunities for local people, and education and career pathways for young people. Our focus on social value reflects that HS2 is more than just a railway – it is a social project with huge scope to make positive improvements to communities, beyond how people travel. Our aim is to deliver high-quality, long-term benefits that support sustainable change in people’s lives, enhancing local communities long after we have completed our works.
